SI, Simultaneous Interpretation
Simultaneous interpreting, SI, is a mode of interpreting in which the speaker makes a speech and the interpreter reformulates the speech into a language his audience understands at the same time. The SI interpreter translates the message from the source language to the target language in real-time. Two or three interpreters are working together as boothmates inside a booth, taking turns.
CI, Consecutive Interpretation
Consecutive interpretation, CI, is a form of interpreting after the source-language speaker has finished speaking. It requires retention of memory based on the length of speech. Note-taking is normally used to help the skill. One interpreter works solo, or two interpreters can work together depending on the nature of the conference.
RSI, Remote Simultaneous Interpretation
In RSI, remote silultaneous interpreting, interpreters are not in the same location as the participants (audience, speakers) of an event. RSI can be done either from home or from a hub, where a couple of interpreters are physically working together, ideally in a room equipped with ISO-compliant mobile or permanent interpreting booths.
